Charging & Remissions Policy

The Governing Body recognises that in order for Barugh Green School to provide a broad and balanced curriculum it is essential that a wide range of additional activities including trips and residential experiences are planned for the children.  These provide first hand experiences and enhance the thematic work planned each term.

Aim

The aim of this policy is to set out what charges will be levied for activities, what remissions will be implemented and the circumstances under which voluntary contributions will be requested from parents.

Prohibition of Charges

Education during school hours

Education outside of school hours if it is part of the national curriculum

Tuition for musical instruments if it is part of the national curriculum

Education on any trip that takes place during school hours

Education on a trip that takes place out of school hours but is part of the national curriculum

Supply teachers to cover for teachers on a residential trip

Transport provided in connection with a school trip

Publication of Information

A summary of this policy will be included in the school prospectus.

Charges

The Governing Body reserves the right to make a change in the following circumstances for activities organised by the school.

School Journeys in School Hours

The board and lodging element of residential activities deemed to take place within school hours.

Activities Outside School Hours

The full cost to each pupil of activities deemed to be optional extras taking place outside school hours eg travel, materials and equipment, non teaching staff costs, entrance fees and insurance costs.

Other Charges

Individual tuition in the playing of a musical instrument

Breakages and replacements as a result of damages caused willfully or negligently by pupils.

Extra curricular activities and school clubs

Charging in Kind

The Governing Body can charge for ingredients and materials or require them to be provided if the parents have indicated in advance that they wish to own the finished product.

Voluntary Contributions

Nothing in this policy statement precludes the Governing Body from inviting parents to make voluntary contribution towards the cost of providing education to pupils.  However no pupil will be denied participation in any visit/journey which takes place within school hours, on the grounds that no contribution has been made on the child’s behalf.
